Key Milestones in Nakheel’s History
- 2001: Nakheel is established as part of Dubai’s bold real estate expansion plan.
- 2003–2006: Begins construction of Palm Jumeirah, The World Islands, and Palm Jebel Ali – some of the most ambitious land reclamation projects ever attempted.
- 2008–2009: The global financial crisis hits; Nakheel restructures billions in debt. Several mega-projects are paused or slowed.
- 2011–2013: Stabilization phase; Nakheel resumes development and delivery of key projects including residential towers and malls.
- 2017–2021: Reemerges as a stable, profitable entity. Focus shifts to completing legacy projects and launching new, more sustainable developments.
- 2022–2024: Relaunches Palm Jebel Ali, unveils new waterfront master plans, and begins aligning with Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
