- 2013 Nov 27: Dubai named host of Expo 2020 by the BIE.
- 2015–2020: Site master-planned by HOK; infrastructure built by Orascom & BESIX.
- 1 Oct 2021–31 Mar 2022: Expo 2020 runs (24 million+ visitors).
- 2022: District 2020 rebranded as Expo City Dubai; inaugural opening on 1 Oct 2022.
- Nov–Dec 2023: Hosts COP 28 Climate Summit.
